Have you ever met someone who has such flawless skin it almost lights up a room? If you’ve ever wondered how some people have such beautiful, glowing, soft as butter skin and what they do to maintain it keep reading! In todays blog i’m uncovering the top 5 habits of people with great skin and how you can achieve flawless skin too.

  1. Hydration is a must

Drinking at least 8 oz of water a day helps the body to flush out toxins and improves your skin tone. Drinking enough water helps improve elasticity in the skin and also helps your skin stay moisturized longer. When the skin looks puffy , it’s actually retaining water to protect you from dehydration. The more hydrated you stay the fewer fine lines and wrinkles you will see.

  2. SPF is your BFF (Ha Ha that rhymes)

Attention Women of Color (WOC) in particular, Please don’t listen to people who tell you WOC don’t need to wear SPF. Do a google search and you will find over 70 million results that all will tell you “YES” you do. The sun is what ages you and causes skin hyperpigmentation (brown spots), wrinkles and the most serious is Skin Cancer. Although Skin Cancer is less prevalent in the black community than in the white population, when it does occur it tends to be diagnosed at a later, more advanced stage. Studies show that black people are 4x more likely to be diagnosed with an advance stage of melanoma cancer than white people with similar diagnosis. Always use an SPF of at least 30 and reapply every 90 mins, even on cloudy days you are still being exposed to harmful UVA/UVB rays. I highly recommend checking out www.blackgirlsunscreen.com made by women of color for people of color. It’s infused with all Natural Ingredients. They even have an option for kids with an SPF of 50.

  3. Wash your face before bed

Skin repairs itself at night while you're sleeping. During the day your skin is exposed to all kinds of pollution, sweat, and bacteria which is likely to cause clogged pores. Clogged pores lead to breakouts and acne. Your makeup also harbors bacteria and debris with things you come into contact with like your cell phone, gym equipment, other people etc. If you're not washing all the gunk off your face from the day you're committing a cardinal sin that will eventually come back to haunt you. WASH YOUR FACE BEFORE BED!

  4. Eat a well balanced diet

What goes in comes out through your skin! You really are what you eat. Eating the right foods can really give your skin the glow you’ve been searching for. You also must incorporate vitamins into your diet (I take two multi vitamins every single day) Try to limit your salt and sugar intake. Sugar adds to inflammation in the body. Anything you put in your body will eventually show up on your skin one way or another.

  5. Have a good skincare routine

A good skincare does not have to be complex, It just needs to be consistent. You must include a good gentle cleanser and a nourishing moisturizer. You should be exfoliating no more than 1-2 times per week to get rid of dead skin cells on the surface of your skin. Don’t forget your SPF! Make this your ritual.
